CXR Report: Recruiting's Authenticity Problem - Candidate Fraud Research

Candidate fraud has outgrown its name. Deepfake interviews, stolen identities and proxy hires now sit alongside the inflated résumé, and 81% of talent acquisition organizations surveyed have already run into it. Most TA leaders admit they can’t say how much of it reaches their organization, or whether their current controls would catch it.

Recruiting’s Authenticity Problem brings together what corporate TA leaders learned during a four-week CXR research panel on hiring fraud, identity verification and AI in recruiting. It includes the moves the teams furthest ahead have already made.

Find Where Fraud Gets Past Your Controls
Fraudulent hires have cleared multiple video interviews, verified references and clean background checks. See where in the hiring process panelists say most organizations are exposed, and the checkpoint leading teams have added to close the gap.

Rethink Who Makes the Fraud Call
Nearly nine in ten teams still depend on recruiter judgment to spot candidate fraud. Learn the decision model the panel agreed on without argument, and how it protects real candidates as well as the business.

Use AI Without Starting an Arms Race
AI now sits on both sides of the fight. Get the panel’s approach to fraud detection technology, including the strategy panelists warned against.

Get Legal on Your Side
Fewer than four in ten organizations have an AI-in-hiring policy that covers both candidates and internal teams, and new regulations are already in effect. Get the four-part test one SVP of Talent Acquisition uses to move AI and fraud initiatives through legal approval.

About the Research

This report started with a question we kept hearing from talent leaders: how much candidate fraud is actually getting through? JobSync teamed up with CXR to find out. We sponsored the research, and our CEO Alex Murphy co-facilitated the panel with CXR President Chris Hoyt. Over four weeks, TA leaders from across the CXR Community compared notes on what they’re seeing, what’s working and where they’re still stuck. We joined those conversations and learned a lot from them. What you’ll read in the report is the panel’s thinking, in their own words.
